              GREEN APPLE AWARDS GOLD WINNER 2006 SUSTAINABLE BUILDING OF THE YEAR 2006 FINALIST SHORTLISTED BUILDING SUSTAINABILITY AWARDS, LOW ENERGY BUILDING OF THE YEAR 2006LONDON REGION RICS AWARDS 2007 FOR SUSTAINABILITY   The provision of changing facilities, meeting area and cafeteria for seven football pitches.   Sustainable Engineering Design The engineering systems have been awarded BRE, clear skies and DTI grant funding for their renewable nature and innovation. The building produces less than 20% of the CO2 emissions of an alternative good practice building and saves enough energy to provide heating and hot water to 80 houses. Ground linked heat pumps provide heating and hot water using 30% of the energy that would be expended under traditional systems. The heat pumps are connected to a photo-voltaic facade which provides 60% of the electrical capacity. Ventilation for the building is pre-warmed within an atria area prior to entering the facilities.   Building Analysis The project is funded via the Football Foundation and Southwark Council and provides a sporting facility for one all weather sport pitch and eight further grass pitches. The building includes fourteen sport England changing areas, a cafeteria/ meeting area and training/ physiotherapy facility.  |
